A New Era Begins: IYC Worldwide Oversees Peaceful Lagos Chapter Election
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide proudly announces the successful conduct of the long-awaited Lagos Chapter election, held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Navy Barracks, Mobile Road, Apapa, Lagos State.
This historic exercise, which had been postponed due to constitutional challenges, was made possible following the recent constitutional amendment convention at Ijaw House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Its successful conclusion marks the beginning of a new era for the IYC Lagos Chapter.
The peaceful and transparent election was supervised by the President of IYC Worldwide, Sir. Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr., who led a high-powered delegation comprising the Deputy President, Comrade Freedom Atigbi, PhD; the Acting National Secretary, Amb. Egelu Edise-emi Bright; and the National Financial Secretary, Comrade Victor A. Gow. Also present were the INC Chairman, Lagos Chapter, his executives, and other key stakeholders of the Ijaw nation—underscoring the significance of the process to Ijaw unity and progress.
At the end of the polls, the following emerged as the newly elected executives of the IYC Lagos Chapter:

Comrade Ibituroko Mpakabori – Financial Secretary
Comrade Lakamfa Alaere – Woman Leader
Comrade Feyor Solomon Oweipade – Student Representative
In his address, President Sir. Jonathan Lokpobiri commended the Lagos Chapter Electoral Committee, chaired by Comrade Oyinbrakemi Gboloben, for conducting a credible, free, and fair election. He also lauded members of the IYC Lagos Chapter for their discipline, peaceful conduct, and impressive turnout, which showcased the enduring democratic culture of the Ijaw people.
The President charged the newly elected executives to work in unity, lead with transparency, and remain committed to service. He stressed that peace, inclusiveness, and accountability must form the foundation of their administration as they usher the chapter into a new dispensation.
