IYC President Appreciates Tompolo for Visiting IYC Secretariat Project Site
…Describes Him as a Dependable Pillar of Support and a Unifier Committed to the Growth of Ijaw Nation
The President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, has expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for his recent visit to the construction site of the IYC Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Sir Lokpobiri described the visit as “historic and inspiring,” noting that it will further motivate the timely completion of the landmark project. He recounted how the Ijaw Youth Council, the foremost youth body of the Ijaw Nation, has long operated without a befitting secretariat—a gap that has hindered its organizational growth and effectiveness. The ongoing project, he said, represents a new dawn for the IYC.
The IYC President expressed immense gratitude to High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) and High Chief Kestin Pondi, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, for their unwavering support and intervention in taking over the construction of the Secretariat Complex.
The Ultra-Modern IYC Secretariat Complex, according to Lokpobiri, comprises a three-storey administrative block, a 2,500-seater capacity conference hall, a youth training centre, warehouse, car park, and several other facilities aimed at empowering Ijaw youths and strengthening institutional coordination.
Describing Tompolo as a “dependable pillar of support and a true unifier,” Sir Lokpobiri commended his tireless efforts in giving back to the Ijaw Nation. He praised Tompolo’s continuous investment of personal resources toward the development, peace, and unity of the Ijaw people, adding that his inclusive leadership and benevolent disposition across all Ijaw zones distinguish him as a remarkable statesman.
Lokpobiri emphasized that one of the central focuses of the IYC leadership is to build more capable leaders and empower youths with integrity and purpose. He affirmed that Tompolo has exemplified this vision through his consistent contributions, making it easier for the IYC leadership to mentor young Ijaws on the path of discipline, integrity, and greatness.
“In every era, God raises a hero to guide and defend His people,” Lokpobiri said, citing the examples of King Fredrick William Koko and Major Jasper Adaka Boro. “In our time, Tompolo stands as that hero — a unifier, a defender, and a leader whose actions continue to uplift the Ijaw Nation.”
He therefore called on all Ijaw youths to rally behind Tompolo and emulate his exemplary leadership style.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Kestin Pondi, reaffirmed that Tantita’s sponsorship of the IYC Secretariat Complex aligns with the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitments. He stressed the company’s dedication to combating environmental pollution in the Niger Delta region.
Pondi highlighted that much of the environmental degradation in the region, particularly the destruction of marine ecosystems, stems from illegal bunkering activities and irresponsible industrial practices by some multinationals. He urged Ijaw youths to shun such destructive ventures and instead channel their energy toward productive, purpose-driven endeavors that protect and sustain their environment.
