.. Demands Transparent Investigation.
The President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, has vehemently condemned the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Patrick Peresuodei, an Ijaw youth.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tari Agai, Lokpobiri, unequivocally stated that no individual has the right to take the life of another, and emphasised the need for a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter.
“We call on the Bayelsa State Government and the Commissioner of Police to forthwith conduct a credible and transparent investigation, and bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice, ensuring they face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.
While noting that the videos of the deceased threatening Apst Bodmas Kemepadei, and a chat alledgedly threatening him again with an AK47 were disturbing and condemnable too, Lokpobiri, who said he has no problem if Patrick Peresuodei, had been arrested and prosecuted, stressed that the graphic footage of the young man’s brutalization and subsequent death was even more worrisome. “The surfacing of such videos on the media is a cause for concern, and we demand answers,” he said.
On behalf of the Ijaw youths worldwide, Lokpobiri extended condolences to the family of the deceased, while assuring the Bayelsa State Police Command that the IYC is closely monitoring the situation. “This matter will not be swept under the carpet. We demand to know the real culprits behind the brutal killing of Patrick Peresuodei, and we will not rest until they are apprehended and brought to justice, regardless of whose ox is gored,” the IYC President declared.
The IYC has thus put the relevant authorities on notice, demanding a thorough investigation and swift action to ensure justice is served in this matter.
