President Tinubu Is Committed To Improve Welfare Of Niger Delta Region
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, has reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improving the welfare of the Niger Delta region, assuring that the administration is determined to address the pressing challenges facing the area.
Senator Akume gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum, led by its Chairman and President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
Highlighting some of President Tinubu’s efforts, the SGF noted the establishment of the University of Environmental Technology in Ogoniland to address ecological challenges both regionally and nationally. He also emphasized the appointment of qualified Nigerians from the Niger Delta into key positions of authority, as part of the President’s inclusivity drive.
Senator Akume acknowledged past interventions initiated by successive governments, such as the creation of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and the Amnesty Programme, all of which were aimed at addressing the developmental and security concerns of the region. He further assured that the Tinubu-led administration is working diligently to revive Nigeria’s indigenous refineries to strengthen economic development and self-reliance.
The SGF commended the Forum for its solidarity and grassroots mobilization in support of President Tinubu’s administration, stressing that zoning and power rotation remain vital principles in promoting national unity, political stability, and inclusiveness among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and regional groups.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Forum and IYC President, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his swift intervention in resolving the Rivers State crisis, which restored peace and stability in the state. He also thanked the Federal Government for empowering youths of the Niger Delta through the Amnesty Programme.
Sir Lokpobiri reaffirmed the Forum’s resolve to mobilize the Niger Delta people in support of President Tinubu’s re-election, in order to consolidate on the Renewed Hope Agenda and drive sustainable economic growth across the nation.
