~𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐎𝐏𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐂 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐦𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐢

 

In the wake of celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Executive Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area, Hon. Dagidi Rawlings Andaye, the National President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, led an IYC delegation to inspect two critical projects abandoned in Bomadi Town. The projects include the IYC Western Zone Secretariat Complex and the Presidential Amnesty Programme Training Centre, both of which have been neglected for years.

 

The IYC Western Zone Secretariat Project was initiated by the Delta State Government under the former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration through the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC). However, despite its potential to add value to the Ijaw Nation, the project remains unfinished.

 

Sir Lokpobiri made a passionate appeal to the Delta State Government and DESOPADEC to mobilize the contractor back to the site and complete the project. He emphasized that the Ijaw Youths deserve a dignified structure to discuss crucial issues affecting their nation, stressing that meetings in hotels and bare parlors are no longer sufficient.

 

The IYC President also urged Ijaw leaders who are members of DESOPADEC and the current Delta State Government to leverage their positions to facilitate the project’s completion. He reminded them that their presence in public offices is meant to improve the lives of their people and bring democracy’s dividends to their region.

 

In this same vein, the IYC delegation inspected the abandoned Presidential Amnesty Programme Training Centre in Bomadi. Sir Lokpobiri called on the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, to revisit and complete this economically viable project.

He highlighted that the Training Centre’s completion would significantly impact the lives of Ijaw youths, who are the largest beneficiaries of the programme.

 

The IYC’s demands underscore the organization’s commitment to ensuring that developmental projects in the Ijaw region are completed and utilized for the benefit of the people.
