Aims of Ijaw Youth Council

The Aim of the IYC shall be to pursue, with absolute commitment, the tenets of the Kaiama Declaration and to promote the unity and progress of the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality.

Founded on December 11, 1998, the Ijaw Youth Council has spent 27 years as a vital sociopolitical organization in Nigeria, dedicated to protecting and promoting the interests of the Ijaw people, one of the country’s four largest ethnic groups.ย

    The current president of the Ijaw Youth Council has accomplished numerous impactful milestones, bringing meaningful progress to the organization and its people.

    Through Dedication and Focus

    Through thoughtful peace dialogues, the president has successfully ended the era of divided administration in the council's eastern flank, fostering unity and collaboration.

    The end to era of divided administration

    In just one year, a constitution for the council has been successfully presentedโ€”a remarkable milestone after 10 years of operating without one. This is especially significant for addressing the electoral aspects, which had long been missing from the council's framework.

    Peace has been restored within the council, rekindling its former glory. Those who distanced themselves out of frustration are now filled with excitement and have wholeheartedly returned, actively participating in the council's activities once again.
