IYC President Urges Young People to Rise Above Limitations and Embrace a Brighter Future

The President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, has charged young people not to allow their backgrounds or circumstances to limit their potential. Speaking while addressing a group of youths who paid him a courtesy visit earlier today, he emphasized that “it isn’t where you came from, it’s where you’re going that counts.”

Sir Lokpobiri noted that many young people often feel constrained by their family struggles, communities, or environments. However, he urged them to look beyond their origins and focus on the future they aspire to build, reminding them that every great leader and innovator began with humble beginnings.

He reiterated that as heirs of a rich Ijaw heritage, young people must rise above obstacles, create opportunities where none exist, and serve as voices of hope in the face of despair. “The measure of our worth will not be the difficulties we inherited, but the future we design and deliver,” he said.

The IYC President further called on youths to embrace courage, discipline, and vision, stressing that success is achieved not through excuses but through education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and unity. He encouraged them to step boldly into tomorrow’s possibilities and not remain trapped by yesterday’s limitations.

Sir Lokpobiri concluded by affirming that though the journey ahead may be tough, it is full of promise. He reminded young people that each of them carries a seed of greatness and urged them to nurture it with diligence and resilience, assuring that together, they can secure a better future for the Ijaw nation and beyond.
