IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL (IYC) WORLDWIDE JOINS IN COMMISSIONING OF NIGERIA’S FIRST INDIGENOUS ONSHORE CRUDE EXPORT TERMINAL IN RIVERS STATE
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, under the distinguished leadership of its President, proudly participated in the historic commissioning of Nigeria’s first indigenous onshore crude oil export terminal, held yesterday at Ikuru Town in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The newly inaugurated $400 million Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Export Terminal represents a monumental stride in Nigeria’s pursuit of energy independence and indigenous participation in the oil and gas industry.
The commissioning ceremony was conducted by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, who represented the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The event reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing local content, empowering indigenous operators, and deepening investment within Nigeria’s oil and gas value chain.
Developed by Green Energy International Limited, operators of the Otakikpo Oil Field in OML 11, Ikuru Town, the facility demonstrates the growing capability of Nigerian-owned firms to deliver world-class energy infrastructure. The Otakikpo Terminal enables direct onshore crude export, creating new streams of value, employment opportunities, and enhanced revenue for host communities and the nation at large.
In its solidarity message, the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide commended both the Federal Government and Green Energy International Limited for their foresight and dedication to indigenous capacity development. The IYC President highlighted that this landmark project stands as proof of the Niger Delta’s potential and the ability of its people to drive national growth when given the right support and environment.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to continued collaboration with stakeholders in fostering sustainable peace, youth empowerment, and responsible resource management across the Niger Delta. It further urged increased investment in host communities, protection of the environment, and inclusive participation of Ijaw youths in the opportunities emerging from this historic achievement.
