The President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, yesterday received in audience the revered Ijaw leader and respected stakeholder, Chief T.K. Ogoriba, who formally informed the President of his intention to contest for the office of President, Ijaw National Congress (INC) Worldwide.

During the visit, Chief Ogoriba highlighted his long-standing commitment, experience, and longevity in the Niger Delta struggle, noting that these values form the backbone of his aspiration to serve the Ijaw Nation at the highest intellectual and cultural level. While acknowledging that the IYC President does not possess voting rights in the INC electoral process, Chief Ogoriba emphasized that the moral support, credibility, and wide-reaching networks of Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr remain invaluable assets to the advancement of his vision.

Chief Ogoriba also expressed deep concern regarding the rising insecurity across the Nigerian nation-state, calling for renewed unity, vigilance, and a collective voice toward safeguarding Ijaw interests and protecting all vulnerable communities.

In his response, President Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr appreciated Chief Ogoriba and his delegation for the visit, commending their commitment to strengthening Ijaw unity. He reiterated the need for all leaders to place the collective interest of the Ijaw Nation above personal ambition. The President assured the delegation that he will continue to advocate for competence and credibility, especially within the Central Zone, stressing that the Ijaw Nation must always be represented by its best.

The Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide remains committed to the ideals of unity, progress, and the protection of the rights and dignity of all Ijaw people.
